I got a PS2 a few years ago from a friend I am no longer in contact with. I'm trying to change the parental lock to be nonexistant. However the Parental Controls section of the setup is white instead of blue when I move over it. I can't select it. Can someone please help? I tried stopping the movie to no avail. I don't know if I did it wrong or what.

Damn. I didn't even know the PS2 had parental controls. You could pull out the CMOS (clock) battery like the u/GnrySgtRageman said. It's really easy if you have a slim and a bit trickier with a fat.

As someone who occasionally repairs my own electronics, the PS2 was the first thing I ever opened up and worked on, and it's pretty easy.

I just saw this post, so I'll repeat what I said here:

Some options are only accessible in the DVD player if the disc is not playing, so try stopping the DVD playback to enable the settings options that you can't access. Here's the relevant part of the manual for how to remove the Parental Controls:

Start a DVD and then stop playback. (Clear Resume Play. Use a DVD without the Parental Control feature).

At the Control Panel, select and then press the ✕ button.

Select "Parental Control" and then press the ✕ button. (The screen to enter a password is displayed. If the screen to register a password is displayed, no password has been registered before. In this case, register a new password).

Press the SELECT button. (The screen to clear the password is displayed).

Enter the number "7444". (The registered password is cleared, and the screen for registering a password is displayed. Enter a new password).
