I bought a carton of marlboro lights in beginning of november, I didnt like them so i plan on giving them to my dad for christmas (he smokes them), Will they be fresh by then and not stale? They are in a box and the packs are closed the way you buy them
I work at the tobacco counter at a supermarket (UK).
You are watching: How long do cigarettes stay fresh
I think they last for months, maybe even years.
Some of the popular ones, like Marlboro Gold and Benson and hedges have probably been on the shelf for about 8 hours.
The slightly less popular, like the Windsor Blue or lambert and butler will be on the shelf for about a week or two.
We stock some packs like JPS Black, Embassy filter, superkings blue, Berkeley green that have probably sat on the shelf for over a year until you buy it.
In fact one pack someone put a sticker on the back of the pack August 2017 (pack at the front of the display) and it's still there.
The tobacco rep that came in to the gas station I used to work at said unopened cigarettes have a shelf life of 2 years. There is probably some degradation in quality over that time frame but a month shouldn’t be an issue.
I recently smoked a pack from 2008. They don't really get bad unless they're kept in bad conditions.
Ya know they are pry pretty bad by now you better send them to me 😉
I know some older ladies that put their ciggs in the freezer but idk if that will actually help or not…… either way you should be good. They are expensive nowadays I'm sure your dad will be thrilled!
