So, how long does cooked shrimp last in the fridge?

How long cooked shrimp lasts will depend on how you store it, what the temperature is, and how long it is left out at room temperature.

Unfortunately, shrimp does not last very long if left at room temperature, as shrimp and other seafood can start to go bad, or grow bacteria in just 2-3 hours at 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

If shrimp is exposed to even higher temperatures such as 90 degrees Fahrenheit, then it will only last in this situation for about an hour.

This is why it is paramount if you have left shrimp out for too long, or a long while, then you should throw it away and make sure that you do not consume it!

If you eat shrimp that has been left out for too long, even if it is well cooked, you can be susceptible to food poisoning, and you may become very sick.

So, you will need to store it properly, ready to consume the next time you want to eat it. Luckily, we have some tips on how to store cooked shrimp in the sections below.

Refrigeration

The best way to maintain the quality and safety of your cooked shrimp is to store it properly, and refrigerate it. If cooked shrimp has been refrigerated, then it can be consumed for up to 3 or 4 days after it is cooked. After that, it should be thrown away.

You should refrigerate cooked shrimp as soon as it has cooled, and no later than two hours after cooking. To maximize its longevity even more, you should ensure that it is stored in an airtight container, in a sealed bag or in aluminum foil.

Freezing

If you are not going to use the cooked shrimp within three days, then it is probably best to stick it in the freezer.

This will increase its freshness and longevity for much longer. Simply place the shrimp in a freezer bag or Ziploc bag, seal it up and ensure that it is airtight. Then place it in your freezer to use whenever you are ready.

When properly stored, cooked shrimp that has been frozen is safe for consumption for up to 10-12 months. After that, it is still safe to eat, but it may have lost a lot of its initial quality, flavor and texture.

To use your frozen shrimp, simply take it out of the freezer, and place in the refrigerator to thaw overnight before using. To salvage frozen shrimp that have been in the freezer for a while, we have two recipes that you can try out.
